Why Maple

Maple is naturally light, with a close even grain and very little figure. Where Padauk announces itself and Ebony anchors a piece, Maple does neither — which is exactly its use.

It is the wood we reach for when the design needs a calm ground: a pale field for an Ebony inlay to read against, or a soft counterweight to something bolder hanging beside it.

How it ages

Of our four woods, Maple moves least after Ebony. It yellows very slightly over a long period. There is no dye involved, so nothing fades — the wood simply warms a shade.

Styling

  • Dark drapes: maximum contrast without the weight of a bold colour
  • Handloom, khadi and linen: texture against texture, both understated
  • Office and everyday: the least attention-seeking wood we use
  • Pale outfits: choose a Maple piece paired with Ebony or Padauk, or it will disappear

Common questions

Is Maple bleached or treated?
No. It is naturally pale and stays that way.

Why is Maple usually paired with another wood?
Because it has little natural figure of its own. It works best as a ground for contrast — inlay, banding or a second element.

Is Maple as durable as the darker woods?
It is a hardwood and handles daily wear. Ebony and Padauk are denser, but at earring scale the difference is not one you would notice.
