A black Ebony square at the ear, and below it a flaring fan striped in red and pale wood.
Sirsha is made from Maple, Padauk and Ebony, three of the woods that pass through a Kolkata workshop making parts for musical instruments. The Maple is the pale wood of violin backs and necks; the Padauk is the red hardwood from the same bench; the Ebony is the black wood of fingerboards. All three reach us as offcuts from that work. Read how the wood gets here.
The fan is built from two woods joined together. Strips of Padauk and Maple are cut and bonded side by side, then shaped into the fan and polished back as one piece — so the stripes are joins between species, not lines laid on a surface. Nothing is stained, dyed or painted.
A fan is a shape that widens as it falls, which is the opposite of most of our drops. It gives the piece weight at the bottom and makes it read as decisive rather than delicate — and the plain black square above keeps that from tipping into fussiness.

Styling ▾
Red, cream and black together make these statement wooden earrings for festive wear — warm enough for a silk saree, graphic enough not to look traditional.
Wear with hair up and a plain neckline so the full width of the fan is visible. The Ebony square sits close to the lobe and anchors the pair against dark clothing.
Looking after it ▾
- Keep it in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight — Padauk's red deepens with light exposure.
- Keep it dry — take it off before washing or swimming.
- Store pieces separately so they do not knock against one another.
- Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth after wearing.
- Avoid perfume, moisturiser, soap and other chemicals.

Is the red colour stained or dyed? ▾
No. That is Padauk's own colour — the wood comes out of the log this red. Nothing is stained, dyed or painted.
Are the stripes laid on the surface? ▾
No. They are joins. Separate pieces of Padauk and Maple are cut and bonded side by side, then the fan is shaped and polished back as one piece.
Are these suitable for a wedding or a festival? ▾
Yes. The colour and the scale read as occasion jewellery, and at about 10 g the pair can be worn through a long function.
Will a fan this wide be heavy? ▾
The pair weighs about 10 g. A shape this broad in metal would pull on the earlobe within an hour.
Will the colours change over time? ▾
Slightly. Padauk deepens most, Maple and Ebony a little. Kept out of direct sunlight the piece ages evenly and holds its polish.
