No inlay, no engraving, no banding, no painted line. Vasanta is the quietest thing we make, and that is the difficulty of it — with no pattern to carry the eye, the whole piece rests on two things: the shape of each curve, and the colour of the wood itself.

It is also the only design in the collection with no black in it. Most of our work uses Ebony to anchor a composition. Take it away and nothing holds the piece down, which is why Vasanta sits lighter on the ear and reads warmer against skin than anything else in the range.

Vasanta is Sanskrit for spring. Red and cream with no black in it is about as close as wood comes to that season.

Why plain is harder than patterned

Pattern forgives. An inlaid line or an engraved motif gives the eye somewhere to go, and small irregularities in a shape disappear behind it. A plain face offers no such cover. Every part of the outline is on display, the curve has to be true the whole way round, and the polish has to be even across the entire surface, because there is nothing else to look at.

Padauk makes that possible. It is dense and finely textured, and rich enough in colour that a large unmarked surface stays interesting rather than becoming a slab. In a paler or flatter timber, a plain dome this size would simply look unfinished.

Two warm woods, no anchor

Pairing two light-to-mid tones is harder to get right than pairing something with black. Black does the separating for you — any colour reads clearly beside it. Take it away and the two remaining woods have to hold their own boundary, which means the tonal gap between them must be wide enough to stay legible at arm's length.

It works here because Padauk is genuinely saturated. It is not a pale pink or a tan; it arrives at the bench a strong coral red, and against Maple's cream that is contrast enough without help.

How to style Vasanta

Gold accents suit Vasanta particularly well; silver cools it and works against the palette. Avoid pairing it with strong reds in the outfit — the Padauk will lose. Because the piece carries no pattern of its own, it is one of the few in the range that sits comfortably beside a printed fabric.

Is the red colour natural or dyed?
Natural. It is Padauk, also called African Coral Wood, which grows a strong orange-red. The cream is Maple. Nothing in Vasanta is dyed, stained or painted.

Is there any pattern on Vasanta?
None at all. No inlay, no engraving, no banding, no painting. Both faces are left plain, which makes this the quietest design in the collection — and the one where the shape and the wood have to carry everything.

Why is a plain piece harder to make than a patterned one?

It deepens rather than fades, moving from bright coral towards brick red over months and years in light and air. All Padauk does this. Can Vasanta get wet?
Please avoid it. Remove them before bathing, swimming or exercising. If they get damp, dry with a soft cloth straight away and let them air fully before storing.

Are they strong enough for regular wear?
Yes. Padauk and Maple are both dense hardwoods, hand-finished and quality-checked. Everyday wear is fine; a fall onto a hard floor is not.

Do plain wooden earrings show marks?
More than patterned ones. A polished plain face shows a fingerprint or smudge where line work would hide it, so wipe with a dry cloth after wearing and keep the pair away from hand cream and cosmetics.

What are the hooks made of?
