Chandrima means moon. The design earns the name rather than borrowing it: a crescent of deep red Padauk sits at the lobe, and a full oval of pale Maple hangs beneath it. Waning and full, dark and light, in one pair.
The Padauk here shows the wood at its settled colour — a deep brick red rather than the bright coral it starts as. Padauk darkens with light and air over months, and this is where it arrives. The Maple beneath keeps its cream, with the grain running vertically down the oval so the eye travels the length of the drop.
Both colours are natural. Nothing is dyed, stained or painted. The pair weighs 10 g.

Two curves, cut differently
A crescent is the harder of the two shapes. It has an inner curve and an outer one that never run parallel, meeting at two fine points where the wood is thinnest and most likely to break. Padauk is dense and interlocked enough to hold those tips, which is why it is the wood at the top rather than the bottom.
The Maple oval is the simpler cut but the fussier finish: a continuous curve shows every flat spot, so the sanding has to be even the whole way round.
Why the moon suits wood
Lunar motifs run through jewellery in nearly every culture, usually rendered in metal — silver for its coldness, gold for its glow. Wood gives you something neither can: warmth. A crescent in red Padauk reads less like a night sky and more like a harvest moon, which is a different and rather warmer idea to wear.
How to style Chandrima

Padauk, also called African Coral Wood, for the crescent, and Maple for the oval. Both are exotic hardwoods, responsibly repurposed from offcuts of fine wood craftsmanship.
▾Is the deep red colour natural?
Yes. Padauk grows red — bright coral when freshly cut, deepening to brick red over months as it meets light and air. What you see here is the settled colour. Nothing is dyed or stained.
▾Will the colour change further?
Only gradually. Padauk does most of its darkening early, then holds. Keeping the pair out of direct sunlight slows any further change.
▾Are the crescent tips fragile?
They are the finest part of the piece, so handle them with a little care. Padauk was chosen for the crescent precisely because it is dense and interlocked enough to hold a fine point. Normal wear is fine; a hard fall is not.
