Lata Wooden Earrings are handcrafted statement danglers made from responsibly repurposed exotic wood. A four-pointed Padauk star, its sides carved into soft concave curves, sits at the ear and holds a long, gently domed Maple oval below it. The pair weighs 10 g, and every piece is shaped, finished and quality-checked by hand in India.
Two woods, two silhouettes
Lata sets a hard shape against a soft one. The upper star is cut from Padauk — a dense hardwood with a deep red-brown warmth — and its four points are drawn out by carving the sides inward, so the shape catches light along every curve. Beneath it hangs a slim Maple oval, pale gold and streaked with the wood's own grain, rounded so that it turns and moves as you do.
Neither element is dyed, stained or painted. What you see is the natural colour of two different woods, and because every offcut carries its own grain, no two pairs of Lata are alike.

How to style Lata Wooden Earrings
With a saree. The long drop suits a saree worn with the hair pulled back — the oval reads clearly against the neck. Deep reds, maroons, blacks, mustards and creams all pick up one of the two wood tones, so cotton, tussar, linen and handloom drapes all work.
With a kurta or Anarkali. Keep the kurta plain and the neckline high. A solid chanderi, silk or cotton kurta lets the star and oval hold their shape instead of disappearing into a print.
With western wear. A shirt dress, a knotted linen shirt or a plain black top gives the long silhouette room to hang. The length flatters an open collar.
For festive days and evenings. The red-brown Padauk carries the warmth of Durga Puja, Navratri, Diwali and Poila Boishakh, and at 10 g it stays comfortable through a long function.
Lata is the statement, so let it be the only one. Skip the necklace and keep other jewellery quiet.
Caring for your Lata Wooden Earrings
- Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after every wear. Never wash them.
- Put them on last, once perfume, makeup and skincare have settled.
- Take them off before bathing, swimming or exercising.
- Store them in the box or pouch they arrive in, somewhere cool and dry, out of direct sunlight.
- Handle them by the metal findings rather than the wood.
Frequently asked questions
Which woods are used in Lata Wooden Earrings?
Two. The star at the top is Padauk, also known as African Coral Wood, which gives the deep red-brown. The oval drop below is Maple, a pale gold hardwood with fine natural grain. Both are responsibly repurposed exotic wood.
What shape are these earrings?
Lata has two elements. The upper one is a four-pointed star with concave, inward-curving sides, worn flat at the ear. Suspended from it is a long, narrow oval, gently domed across its face so it catches the light.
Is the pale wood bleached or the dark wood stained?
Neither. The contrast between the two elements is the difference between two species of wood, not a finish. Nothing on Lata is bleached, dyed, stained or painted.
How much do they weigh?
10 g for the pair. Wood of this size in metal would be several times heavier, which is why Lata can be worn from a morning function through to a late evening without your ears aching.
What are the hooks and findings made of?
Metal alloy. If your ears react to particular metals, please write to us at reachchandrakalakriti@gmail.com before ordering and we will tell you exactly what we know rather than guess.
Do long wooden earrings suit sarees?
Very well. A long drop like Lata is one of the easiest shapes to wear with a saree, particularly with the hair tied back, and the warm Padauk tone sits naturally alongside handloom, cotton and tussar weaves.
Are wooden earrings strong enough for regular wear?
Padauk and Maple are both dense hardwoods, selected for strength. Lata is built for repeated wear over years, provided it is not dropped onto hard floors or left sitting in water.
What happens if they get wet?
Take them off before you shower, swim or work out, and keep them away from sustained damp. A stray splash is not a disaster — dry it off with a soft cloth and leave the pair in open air for a while before putting it away.
Will the two wood colours change over time?
They will deepen slightly, which is how natural wood ages. Padauk in particular grows richer with time. Storing Lata away from direct sunlight and harsh chemicals keeps the finish and the contrast looking their best.
How do I clean and store them?
A soft, dry cloth after each wear — no water, no soap, no alcohol-based cleaners. Keep each pair on its own in the box or pouch it came in, somewhere cool, dry and out of the sun.
Will my pair match the photographs exactly?
It will be very close, but the grain will be its own. Every Lata is cut from repurposed offcuts, so the streaking in the Maple and the depth of the Padauk shift a little from pair to pair.
Do these work as a keepsake, and how are they packed?
Yes. Every pair is quality-checked and packed in premium protective packaging, ready to give — which makes Lata a considered keepsake for birthdays, anniversaries, festivals and corporate gifting.
