The warmest of our three-wood combinations  ▾

Where Maple and Ebony reads cool and graphic, this pairing reads warm. Boxwood's honey gold sits naturally beside Padauk's red, with Ebony providing the anchor that stops the two warm tones blurring into each other.

All three colours are the woods' own. Nothing here is dyed, stained or painted — which is why the contrast will sharpen rather than fade as the pieces age.

Why three woods is harder  ▾

Each additional wood means additional joins, and every mating face has to be worked dead flat and dead square before bonding. A gap of a fraction of a millimetre shows as a pale line against Ebony or a dark line against Boxwood, and it cannot be corrected afterwards.

The shaping comes after the joining, so as a form tapers each band ends up a different width. Any drift shows up worst exactly where the piece is narrowest.
