Boxwood — a single responsibly repurposed hardwood, and the classical engraving timber. It is dense and exceptionally close-grained, which is what lets detail this fine be cut without the fibres tearing.

Deliberately. Boxwood has a fine, quiet grain that a dense all-over pattern would hide completely — leaving the centre bare gives the grain somewhere to show and the eye somewhere to rest, so the flowers read as detailed rather than busy.

Engraved — cut into the surface of the wood by hand. Nothing is printed, transferred or stuck on. The pattern has real depth, which you can feel with a fingertip.

Yes. The honey tone is Boxwood's own, deepened by the cutting and polishing. Nothing on Flora is dyed or stained.

Because a sweep is more interesting to look at than a circle, and harder to cut. A ring can be measured and checked for symmetry; a border weighted to one side has to be judged by eye as it goes, and the point where the flowers thin into bare wood has to feel gradual rather than abrupt.

No. The pattern is cut into the wood rather than applied on top of it, so there is nothing raised for daily wear to rub off.
