A pale round disc at the ear, and below it a drop built from Boxwood and Padauk joined together.
Vritti is made from Boxwood and Padauk, two of the woods that pass through a Kolkata workshop making parts for musical instruments. The Padauk is the red hardwood that comes through that bench; the Boxwood is what instrument makers use for fittings and for their own bench tools. Both reach us as offcuts from that work — fully seasoned, dense and stable. Read how the wood gets here.
The drop is two woods joined. Strips are cut and bonded one against the next, then the whole piece is shaped and polished back as one — so the bands are joins between species, not lines laid on a surface.
Two woods rather than three is what makes this the quietest of our banded drops. Boxwood and Padauk are both warm — pale gold and a soft red — and with no black in the piece, nothing in it reads as sharp. The whole earring stays in one family of colour.
That makes it the banded shape to wear on an ordinary day rather than to a function.

Styling ▾
Warm, low-contrast and unfussy — these are lightweight wooden earrings for daily wear that sit naturally against cotton, linen and handloom.
Because there is no black in the pair, they work better with browns, rusts and creams than our Ebony pieces do, and they soften rather than sharpen a plain outfit.
Looking after it ▾
- Keep it in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight — Padauk's red deepens with light exposure.
- Keep it dry — take it off before washing or swimming.
- Store pieces separately so they do not knock against one another.
- Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth after wearing.
- Avoid perfume, moisturiser, soap and other chemicals.

Is the red colour stained or dyed? ▾
No. That is Padauk's own colour — the wood comes out of the log this red, with darker streaking running through it.
Are the bands laid on the surface? ▾
No. They are joins. Separate pieces of Boxwood and Padauk are bonded together, then shaped and polished back as one piece.
Are these comfortable for everyday wear? ▾
Yes. The pair weighs about 10 g and the contrast is gentle enough not to look dressed up.
What colours do these suit? ▾
Browns, rusts, mustards and creams especially. With no black in the piece, it sits in the same warm family as those tones rather than cutting against them.
Will the colour change over time? ▾
Padauk deepens with age and light, which most people prefer. Kept out of direct sunlight the change is slow and even.
