A plain Ebony disc at the ear, and below it a long Maple oval with a fine line of veneer running through it.

Veni is made from Maple and Ebony, two of the woods that pass through a Kolkata workshop making parts for musical instruments. The Maple is the pale wood used for violin backs, sides and necks; the Ebony is the black wood of fingerboards and tailpieces. Both reach us as offcuts from that work — fully seasoned, dense and stable. Read how the wood gets here.

The drop is a long pointed oval, closing to a tip at each end — the shape that lengthens the line of the face rather than widening it.

The dark line through it is veneer: a leaf-thin strip of real wood, cut and laid onto the Maple, then polished back. It runs lengthwise rather than across, which is what makes the drop read as taller than it measures. A line across the middle would cut the oval in half; a line down it carries the eye to the point.

Maple against Ebony is the palest and darkest pairing we work with, and neither colour is dyed — that contrast is simply what the two species are.

Styling ▾

Pale and narrow, with one dark line — these are lightweight wooden earrings for daily wear that happen to be long enough to dress up. Nothing on them competes with a print, so a block-printed kurta or a patterned saree works as readily as a plain shirt.

Hair up shows the full drop; the narrow profile means they still read with hair down.

Looking after it ▾
  • Keep it in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight.
  • Keep it dry. A laid surface dislikes prolonged damp, so take these off before washing or swimming.
  • Store pieces separately so they do not knock against one another — the edges and the points are the vulnerable parts.
  • Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth after wearing — a pale wood shows a mark more readily than a dark one.
  • Avoid perfume, moisturiser, soap and other chemicals.

Please film an unboxing video. It is required for any claim about a damaged, defective or incorrect item, which must be raised within 48 hours of delivery.

Is the dark line painted on? ▾

No. It is wood veneer — a leaf-thin strip of real wood cut and laid onto the Maple, then polished back. The colour is the wood's own and cannot be rubbed off.

What does veneer mean here? ▾

A very thin leaf of solid wood, cut to shape and laid onto the body beneath it — the method used on instrument cases and fine cabinetry. Keep the piece dry and avoid knocking the edges and it will hold for years.

Which woods are these? ▾

Maple and Ebony. Maple is the pale wood of violin backs and necks; Ebony is the black wood of fingerboards. Both colours are natural.

Are these comfortable for daily wear? ▾

Yes. The pair weighs about 10 g and the drop is narrow, so there is nothing broad to swing or catch.

Will the pale wood darken? ▾

Slightly, over years. Maple warms rather than yellows, and keeping it out of direct sunlight slows the change.
