One square of Boxwood, polished and left completely plain.
Vanita is cut from Boxwood, one of the woods that passes through a Kolkata workshop making parts for musical instruments, where it is used for fittings and for the makers' own bench tools. It reaches us as offcuts from that work — fully seasoned, dense and stable. Read how the wood gets here.
There is no inlay here, no engraving, no second wood and no colour. A square, four clean edges, and a polished face — that is the entire piece. It sits flat against the lobe as a stud rather than hanging.
Plain is harder than it sounds. With a pattern on the surface, the eye forgives an edge that is slightly off; with nothing on it, the squareness of the square and the evenness of the polish are all there is to look at. It is also the piece that shows the wood most honestly — the grain running across the face is the only marking on it, and it is different on every pair.

Styling ▾
This is the pair to wear when something else is doing the talking — a printed saree, a statement necklace, a day when you want to put earrings on without thinking about them.
A square stud reads as more deliberate than a round one: the straight edges give it a graphic, modern quality that suits plain shirts and tailoring as readily as ethnic wear. It is also the easiest piece here to wear with hair down, since nothing hangs to be hidden.
Looking after it ▾
- Keep it in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight.
- Store pieces separately so they do not knock against one another.
- Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth after wearing.
- Avoid perfume, moisturiser, soap and other chemicals.

Free shipping on prepaid orders within India. Dispatch in 2–3 working days; delivery 2–3 days to metro cities and 5–7 days elsewhere in India. Cash on Delivery is available at selected locations with a ₹50 cash-handling charge. We ship worldwide, with import duties and local taxes payable by the recipient.

Are these studs or danglers? ▾
Studs. The square sits flat against the earlobe and nothing hangs below it.
Is the colour stained or painted? ▾
No. The pale gold is Boxwood's own colour, deepened by cutting and polishing. Nothing is added to the surface.
Will the two earrings look exactly the same? ▾
The shape will. The grain will not — it runs differently through every piece of wood, and on a plain face that is the only marking there is.
Are wooden studs comfortable for daily wear? ▾
Yes, and this is the lightest shape we make. The pair weighs about 10 g, and a flat stud puts no pull on the lobe at all.
Will the colour fade? ▾
Wood deepens rather than fades. Kept out of direct sunlight and away from chemicals, Boxwood darkens slightly over the years and holds its polish.
