A plain Boxwood disc at the ear, and below it a long drop striped lengthwise in Boxwood and Ebony.
Vanishri is made from Boxwood and Ebony, two of the woods that pass through a Kolkata workshop making parts for musical instruments. The Ebony is the wood of violin fingerboards and tailpieces; the Boxwood is what instrument makers use for fittings and for their own bench tools. Both reach us as offcuts from that work — fully seasoned, dense and stable. Read how the wood gets here.
The disc at the top is left entirely plain, which matters more than it sounds: it gives the eye somewhere quiet to land before the striped drop below. That drop is long and narrow, rounded at the base, and the bands of black and pale gold run down its full length rather than across it.
Direction is the whole design. Stripes running across a drop cut it into segments and make it look shorter; stripes running down it carry the eye to the bottom and make it look longer still. Vanishri is built the second way, which is why it reads as taller than it measures.

Styling ▾
This is a festive-length earring — long enough to be the only jewellery you need above the neckline. Wear it with hair up so the full drop is visible, and keep the neck bare or close to it.
Black and pale gold sits comfortably against almost any colour, so a bright silk, a deep-toned saree and a plain black dress all work. Against a striped or heavily woven fabric, the lines start to compete — plainer cloth suits it better.
Looking after it ▾
- Keep it in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight.
- Store pieces separately so they do not knock against one another.
- Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth after wearing.
- Avoid perfume, moisturiser, soap and other chemicals.

Free shipping on prepaid orders within India. Dispatch in 2–3 working days; delivery 2–3 days to metro cities and 5–7 days elsewhere in India. Cash on Delivery is available at selected locations with a ₹50 cash-handling charge. We ship worldwide, with import duties and local taxes payable by the recipient.

Are the black stripes painted on? ▾
No. The black is Ebony, a wood that is that colour on its own, and the pale gold is Boxwood. Because both stripes are wood rather than paint, they cannot chip or wear off.
Are these suitable for a wedding or festival? ▾
Yes — the length and the contrast make this one of the dressier pairs we make, and the weight means you can wear it through a long function without wanting to take it off.
Will they be heavy on my ears? ▾
The pair weighs about 10 g. A drop this long in metal would be felt within an hour; in wood it is not.
Which woods are these? ▾
Boxwood and Ebony. Both colours are the woods' own — nothing is stained or dyed.
Will the colour fade? ▾
Wood deepens rather than fades. Kept out of direct sunlight and away from chemicals, both woods darken slightly over the years and hold their polish.
