A dark Ebony disc at the ear, and below it a large diamond cut from a single piece of Boxwood.
Tara is made from Boxwood and Ebony, two of the woods that pass through a Kolkata workshop making parts for musical instruments. The Ebony is the wood of violin fingerboards and tailpieces; the Boxwood is what instrument makers use for fittings and for their own bench tools. Both reach us as offcuts from that work — fully seasoned, dense and stable. Read how the wood gets here.
The diamond is solid wood, cut to shape. There is no inlay in it, nothing laid onto it and no colour — the whole piece is one block of Boxwood, shaped, bevelled at the edges and polished. The only marking on it is the grain, which runs differently through every pair we make.
Above it, a plain disc of Ebony, equally untouched. Two shapes, two woods, and not a single added mark between them: a circle in near-black and a diamond in pale gold.
That is harder to carry off than a patterned piece. With nothing on the surface, the proportions have to be right — the width of the diamond against the diameter of the disc, the length of the points, the evenness of the polish. There is nowhere to hide.

Styling ▾
A large plain shape is the most forgiving kind of statement earring: it is bold from across a room but has no pattern to clash with anything, so it works with a printed silk as easily as with a plain one.
The diamond hangs on its point, which draws the line of the face downward — flattering with hair up and a bare neckline, where the full shape is visible.
Looking after it ▾
- Keep it in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight.
- Store pieces separately so they do not knock against one another.
- Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth after wearing — a plain pale face shows a mark more readily than a patterned one.
- Avoid perfume, moisturiser, soap and other chemicals.

Is the diamond solid wood or layered? ▾
Solid. It is cut from a single piece of Boxwood — there is no inlay, no veneer and nothing laid on the surface.
Is the colour stained or painted? ▾
No. The pale gold is Boxwood's own colour and the near-black is Ebony's. Nothing is dyed, stained or painted.
Will both earrings look the same? ▾
The shapes will. The grain will not — it runs differently through every piece of wood, and on a plain face that is the only marking there is.
Will a diamond this large be heavy? ▾
The pair weighs about 10 g. A shape this size in metal would be felt on the lobe quickly; in wood it is not.
Will the colour fade? ▾
Wood deepens rather than fades. Kept out of direct sunlight and away from chemicals, both woods darken slightly over the years and hold their polish.
