Sugandha is made from Maple and Ebony, two of the woods that pass through a Kolkata workshop making parts for musical instruments. The Maple is the pale wood used for violin backs, sides and necks; the Ebony is the black wood of fingerboards. Both reach us as offcuts from that work — fully seasoned, dense and stable. The bow sits upright rather than lying flat — pinched at the waist and flaring at top and bottom, so it reads as a shape standing on end. It is solid Ebony with nothing on it.
The lines on the oval are veneer, cut and laid onto the Maple and polished back level. They run lengthwise, which is what makes the drop read as taller than it measures.
Maple against Ebony is the palest and darkest pairing we work with. Neither colour is dyed — that contrast is simply what the two species are.

Styling ▾
The dark bow anchors the pair against black and deep colours, where an all-pale earring can float — these are lightweight wooden earrings for daily wear that still work for an evening.
Hair up shows the bow, which sits close to the lobe and is the part most easily hidden.
Looking after it ▾
- Keep it in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight.
- Keep it dry. A laid surface dislikes prolonged damp, so take these off before washing or swimming.
- Store pieces separately so they do not knock against one another.
- Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth after wearing — a pale wood shows a mark more readily than a dark one.
- Avoid perfume, moisturiser, soap and other chemicals.
Delivery and returns ▾
Free shipping on prepaid orders within India. Dispatch in 2–3 working days; delivery 2–3 days to metro cities and 5–7 days elsewhere in India. Cash on Delivery is available at selected locations with a ₹50 cash-handling charge. We ship worldwide, with import duties and local taxes payable by the recipient.

Are the lines drawn on the wood? ▾
No. They are veneer — leaf-thin strips laid into the face and polished back level. The surface is smooth to the touch and the lines cannot wear off.
Is the black bow painted? ▾
No. It is Ebony, a wood that is black on its own — the same wood used for violin fingerboards. It is left plain and polished.
Which woods are these? ▾
Maple and Ebony — the palest and the darkest woods we work with. Both colours are natural.
Do these work with black clothes? ▾
Yes. The Ebony bow gives the pair something dark to sit against, so the pale oval reads as a contrast rather than floating.
Will the pale wood darken? ▾
Slightly, over years. Maple warms rather than yellows, and keeping it out of direct sunlight slows the change.
