Two slim bars hanging side by side, each one pale Boxwood edged in dark Ebony.

Rukmini is made from Boxwood and Ebony, two of the woods that pass through a Kolkata workshop making parts for musical instruments. The Ebony is the wood of violin fingerboards and tailpieces; the Boxwood is what instrument makers use for fittings and for their own bench tools. Both reach us as offcuts from that work — fully seasoned, dense and stable. Read how the wood gets here.

The woods are joined, not drawn. Each bar is built from separate pieces of Boxwood and Ebony, cut and joined edge to edge, then sanded and polished back to a single face. The dark edge is a different species of wood rather than a painted border, which is why the line between them is so exact.

Hanging two bars rather than one is the whole idea. A single bar reads as a stroke; two side by side read as a pair of columns, and because they hang separately they move independently as you turn — the gap between them opening and closing.

Details ā–¾

Woods: Boxwood and Ebony, responsibly repurposed exotic hardwoods.

Construction: the two woods cut, joined edge to edge and polished back.

Form: two slim bars hanging side by side.

Pair weight: about 10 g.

Findings are metal alloy. Sold as one pair.

Handcrafted in Kolkata, India.

Styling ā–¾

Straight lines and natural wood tones make these easy lightweight wooden earrings for daily wear — a shirt, a plain kurta, a handloom saree where the bars echo the weave.

The narrow profile keeps them visible with hair worn down, and there is no pattern to argue with a print.

Looking after it ā–¾
  • Keep it in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight.
  • Keep it dry — take it off before washing or swimming.
  • Store pieces separately so they do not knock against one another.
  • Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth after wearing.
  • Avoid perfume, moisturiser, soap and other chemicals.
Delivery and returns ā–¾

Free shipping on prepaid orders within India. Dispatch in 2–3 working days; delivery 2–3 days to metro cities and 5–7 days elsewhere in India. Cash on Delivery is available at selected locations with a ₹50 cash-handling charge. We ship worldwide, with import duties and local taxes payable by the recipient.

Please film an unboxing video. It is required for any claim about a damaged, defective or incorrect item, which must be raised within 48 hours of delivery.

Is the dark edge painted on? ā–¾

No. It is Ebony — a wood that is black on its own — joined to the Boxwood and polished back. Nothing is stained, dyed or painted, so the edge cannot wear off.

Do the two bars move separately? ā–¾

Yes. They hang alongside each other rather than being fixed together, so they shift independently as you move.

Can I wear these every day? ā–¾

Yes. The pair weighs about 10 g, the shape is narrow, and there is nothing broad to catch on a collar or a dupatta.

Are both earrings identical? ā–¾

Very close. The grain runs differently through every piece of wood, so the pair is matched rather than duplicated.

Will the colour fade? ā–¾

Wood deepens rather than fades. Kept out of direct sunlight and away from chemicals, both woods darken slightly over the years and hold their polish.
