A pointed star at the ear and a rounded oval below it, with fine veneer banding running between the two shapes.
Nandini is made from Boxwood and Ebony, two of the woods that pass through a Kolkata workshop making parts for musical instruments. The Ebony is the wood of violin fingerboards and tailpieces; the Boxwood is what instrument makers use for fittings and for their own bench tools. Both reach us as offcuts from that work — fully seasoned, dense and stable. Read how the wood gets here.
The two shapes could not be more different — one all points and straight edges, the other a smooth closed curve — and that contrast is the design. A star above an oval reads as something sharp resolving into something calm.
The banding between them is veneer: leaf-thin strips of wood cut and laid across the face, then polished back. It runs where the two shapes meet, which ties them together instead of leaving them as two unrelated pieces on one hook.
At this scale it is the largest piece in this group, and the one most clearly made for an occasion rather than a working day.

Styling ▾
These are statement wooden earrings for weddings and festive wear — large enough to carry a silk saree on their own, and light enough to keep on through a long function.
Wear them with hair up and the neck bare, and skip the necklace. Two stacked shapes already fill the space between the ear and the collarbone.
Looking after it ▾
- Keep it in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight.
- Keep it dry. A laid surface dislikes prolonged damp, so take these off before washing or swimming.
- Store pieces separately so they do not knock against one another — the points and the edges are the vulnerable parts.
- Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth after wearing.
- Avoid perfume, moisturiser, soap and other chemicals.

Are the dark lines painted on? ▾
No. They are wood veneer — leaf-thin strips of real wood cut and laid onto the surface, then polished back. The colour is the wood's own, so it cannot be rubbed off.
What does veneer mean here? ▾
A very thin leaf of solid wood, cut to shape and laid onto the body beneath it — the method used on instrument cases and fine cabinetry. Keep the piece dry and avoid knocking the edges and it will hold for years.
Are these suitable for a wedding? ▾
Yes. This is one of the larger pairs we make, and at about 10 g it can be worn through a full day of functions without discomfort.
Will earrings this large be heavy? ▾
The pair weighs about 10 g. Two shapes this size in metal would be a real weight on the earlobe; wood is what makes the scale wearable.
Will the colour fade? ▾
Wood deepens rather than fades. Kept out of direct sunlight and away from chemicals, both woods darken slightly over the years and hold their polish.
