A long Boxwood leaf with a run of angled dark stripes gathered across its lower end.
Kasturi is made from Boxwood and Ebony, two of the woods that pass through a Kolkata workshop making parts for musical instruments. The Ebony is the wood of violin fingerboards and tailpieces; the Boxwood is what instrument makers use for fittings and for their own bench tools. Both reach us as offcuts from that work — fully seasoned, dense and stable. Read how the wood gets here.
The stripes are cut veneer, laid onto the face — leaf-thin pieces of Ebony placed onto the Boxwood and polished back level, so the colour is the wood's own and the surface finishes smooth.
Placing them at the bottom of the leaf rather than the top is deliberate. The eye travels down a long drop; putting the detail where the eye finishes means the piece resolves instead of trailing off, and the whole upper length stays clear.
The leaf is narrow, which is what makes a drop this long comfortable to wear all day.
Details ▾

Findings are metal alloy. Sold as one pair.
Handcrafted in Kolkata, India.
Styling ▾
Long, slim and mostly plain — lightweight wooden earrings for daily wear that read as elegant rather than decorative. Cotton, linen and handloom all suit them.
The narrow profile keeps them visible with hair worn down, and the length shows best with hair up.
Looking after it ▾
- Keep it in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight.
- Keep it dry. A laid surface dislikes prolonged damp, so take these off before washing or swimming.
- Store pieces separately so they do not knock against one another — the edges and the tip are the vulnerable parts.
- Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth after wearing.
- Avoid perfume, moisturiser, soap and other chemicals.

Are the stripes painted on? ▾
No. Each one is Ebony veneer — a leaf-thin piece cut and laid onto the Boxwood, then polished back. The colour is the wood's own.
Why are the stripes at the bottom? ▾
Because the eye travels down a long drop. Detail where the eye finishes makes the piece resolve rather than trail off, and it leaves the whole upper length clear.
Are long wooden earrings comfortable for daily wear? ▾
These are. The pair weighs about 10 g and the leaf is narrow, so there is nothing broad to swing or catch.
Are both earrings identical? ▾
Close, but not exactly. Each stripe is cut and placed by hand, so the spacing varies a little from one to the other.
Will the colour fade? ▾
Wood deepens rather than fades. Kept out of direct sunlight and away from chemicals, both woods darken slightly over the years and hold their polish.
