🔮 Geometry with Purpose — Circles, Stars, Squares & Curves

Kala Wooden Earrings are handcrafted statement danglers made from responsibly repurposed exotic wood. A deep-toned Padauk square, set on point, hangs above a half-round boat-shaped drop banded in alternating stripes of pale Boxwood and warm Padauk. The pair weighs 10 g, and every piece is shaped, finished and quality-checked by hand in India.

Two woods, joined by hand

The stripes on Kala are not printed, dyed or painted. Slim strips of Boxwood and Padauk are joined edge to edge, then shaped and hand-polished so the seam between the two woods becomes the pattern itself. Every band you see is a separate piece of wood, and every colour is the wood's own — pale gold from the Boxwood, warm red-brown from the Padauk.

Because the grain runs differently through every offcut, no two pairs of Kala are identical. That variation is the signature of natural material, not a flaw.

How to style Kala Wooden Earrings

With a saree. The warm gold-and-rust palette sits beautifully against cotton, linen, tussar and handloom sarees — especially in cream, mustard, rust, olive, black and off-white. Let the earrings carry the look and keep the neckline bare.

With a kurta or Anarkali. Pair them with solid cotton, chanderi or silk kurtas. Against a printed kurta, choose a print that already carries one of the two wood tones so the earrings echo the outfit instead of competing with it.

With western wear. A white shirt, a linen dress, a co-ord set or a plain tee and denim — the clean square-and-half-round geometry reads as contemporary as easily as it reads ethnic.

For festive days and celebrations. The warm red-brown of Padauk suits Durga Puja, Navratri, Diwali, Poila Boishakh and daytime wedding functions, and stays light enough to wear from morning to night.

Kala is a statement piece, so wear it as the single focal point. Skip a heavy necklace and keep other accessories minimal.

▾ Care
  • Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after every wear. Never wash them.
  • Wear them after your perfume, makeup and skincare have settled — not before.
  • Remove them before bathing, swimming or exercising.
  • Store in the box or pouch they arrive in, in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight and heat.
  • Hold the metal findings, not the wood, when putting them on and taking them off.

Frequently asked questions

▾ What wood are Kala Wooden Earrings made from?

Kala Wooden Earrings are made from two responsibly repurposed exotic hardwoods: Boxwood, which gives the pale gold bands, and Padauk (also called African Coral Wood), which gives the warm red-brown bands and the square top element.

▾ What is the shape of the design?

Kala pairs a square top element, set on point like a diamond, with a half-round boat-shaped drop below it. The lower piece is flat along the top edge and curves gently to the base, with the wood stripes running across it.

▾ Are the stripes painted or dyed on?

No. Every stripe on Kala is a separate strip of wood, joined edge to edge by hand and then shaped. Nothing on this pair is dyed, stained or painted — the two colours are the natural colours of Boxwood and Padauk.

▾ How heavy are they, and are they comfortable for long wear?

The pair weighs 10 g in total, which is a fraction of what a metal statement earring of the same size would weigh. That is what makes Kala comfortable through a full working day, a wedding function or a festival evening.

▾ What are the earring findings made of?

The hooks and findings on Kala Wooden Earrings are metal alloy. If you have sensitive ears, we would rather you write to us at reachchandrakalakriti@gmail.com than assume — we will tell you exactly what we know.

▾ Do these suit sarees and ethnic wear, or western outfits too?

Both. The geometry is clean and contemporary, so Kala works with a linen dress or a co-ord set, while the warm wood tones make it equally at home with a cotton saree, a chanderi kurta or festive ethnic wear.

▾ Are wooden earrings durable, or do they break easily?

Boxwood and Padauk are dense exotic hardwoods, chosen for strength rather than softness. Handled with ordinary care — not dropped on hard floors, not left in water — Kala is made for regular wear over years, not a single season.

▾ Can wooden earrings get wet?

Wood should not be soaked. Take Kala off before bathing, swimming or a workout, and keep it away from prolonged moisture. If a drop of water lands on it, wipe it off with a soft dry cloth and leave it in open air for a while before storing.

▾ Will the colour fade over time?

Natural wood matures rather than fades. Boxwood and Padauk both deepen gently with age and light, which is part of how a handcrafted piece takes on character. Keeping Kala out of direct sunlight and away from harsh chemicals preserves its finish.

▾ How should I clean and store them?

Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after every wear — no water, no detergent, no alcohol-based cleaner. Store each pair separately in its box or pouch, somewhere cool and dry, away from sunlight and heat.

▾ Will my pair look exactly like the photographs?

Very close, but not identical. Each Kala is cut from repurposed offcuts, so the grain, the exact warmth of the Padauk and the width of the banding vary slightly from pair to pair. No two are the same, and that is the point.

▾ Are these suitable as a keepsake, and how are they packed?

Yes. Kala arrives in premium protective packaging, ready to give, which makes it a considered keepsake for birthdays, anniversaries, festivals and corporate gifting. Every pair is quality-checked before it is packed.

▾ How long does delivery take, and what if something arrives damaged?

Orders are dispatched within 2–3 working days. Within India, delivery takes 2–3 days to metro cities and 5–7 days elsewhere, with free shipping on all prepaid orders; Cash on Delivery is available at selected locations with a ₹50 cash-handling charge. We ship worldwide, with import duties and local taxes payable by the recipient. Please record an unboxing video when your parcel arrives — if anything is damaged, defective or incorrect, tell us within 48 hours on WhatsApp at +91 98301 50088 or by email at reachchandrakalakriti@gmail.com, with the video and photographs, and we will make it right.
