A short striped bar at the ear, and below it a closed hoop that tapers from narrow at the top to wide at the base.
Jahnvi is made from Boxwood and Padauk, two of the woods that pass through a Kolkata workshop making parts for musical instruments. The Padauk is the red hardwood that comes through that bench; the Boxwood is what instrument makers use for fittings and for their own bench tools. Both reach us as offcuts from that work — fully seasoned, dense and stable. Read how the wood gets here.
The bar is two woods joined. Strips of Boxwood and Padauk are cut and bonded side by side, then shaped and polished back as one piece — the stripes are joins between species, not marks on a surface.
The hoop below is the unusual part. It is a complete ring, but the wood is not an even width the whole way round: it narrows where it meets the bar and thickens toward the bottom, so the ring has weight at its base. A ring of constant width reads as a mechanical shape; one that swells reads as carved.
The open centre matters too — your skin, hair or blouse shows through it, so the earring changes with whatever you wear it against.

Styling ▾
A wooden hoop at this scale is a statement, and the open centre keeps it from looking heavy — these are statement wooden earrings for festive wear that stay comfortable through a long function.
Hair up suits them; the striped bar sits close to the lobe and is easy to miss otherwise. Against dark hair the pale hoop reads as a clear ring.
Looking after it ▾
- Keep it in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight — Padauk's red deepens with light exposure.
- Keep it dry — take it off before washing or swimming.
- Store pieces separately so they do not knock against one another.
- Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth after wearing.
- Avoid perfume, moisturiser, soap and other chemicals.

Is the hoop bent or cut? ▾
Cut and shaped from wood, not bent. That is also why it can taper — the ring is thinner at the top and thicker at the base rather than one even width.
Are the stripes painted on? ▾
No. Each band is one of the two woods, cut and joined to the other and polished back. Both colours are natural — nothing is stained or dyed.
Are wooden hoop earrings heavy? ▾
Not in wood. The pair weighs about 10 g, where a hoop this size in metal would be felt by the end of the day.
Are these suitable for a festival or a wedding? ▾
Yes. The scale reads as occasion jewellery and the Padauk gives it warmth against silk.
Will the colour change over time? ▾
Padauk deepens with age and light, which most people prefer. Kept out of direct sunlight the change is slow and even.
