🔮 Geometry with Purpose — Circles, Stars, Squares & Curves

A long rounded oval in pale Maple, worn flat against the lobe, with a fine veneer line running through it.

Bhoomi is cut from Maple, the pale wood used for violin backs, sides and necks, which passes through a Kolkata workshop making parts for musical instruments. It reaches us as offcuts from that work — fully seasoned, dense and stable. Read how the wood gets here.

The shape is domed rather than flat — it swells along its length and curves away at both ends, so it catches light across a surface instead of showing one plane. Worn as a stud, it sits along the lobe rather than hanging from it.

A fine line of veneer runs through the face: a leaf-thin strip of wood, cut and laid in, then polished back until the surface is continuous. It is the only marking on the piece, and on a plain pale body that single line does all the work.

At this size it is one of the quietest things we make — bold enough in shape to be noticed, plain enough in surface to be worn every day.

Details ▾

Wood: Maple, responsibly repurposed exotic hardwood, with a fine wood veneer line.

Construction: cut veneer, laid and polished back.

Form: long domed oval stud, worn along the lobe.

Pair weight: about 10 g.

Findings are metal alloy. Sold as one pair.

Handcrafted in Kolkata, India.

Styling ▾

Among the easiest lightweight wooden stud earrings for daily wear in the range — nothing hangs, nothing swings, and the pale Maple reads as warm rather than stark against most skin tones.

It is also the pair to wear with a statement necklace, since it takes up no space between the ear and the collarbone.

Looking after it ▾
  • Keep it in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight.
  • Keep it dry. A laid surface dislikes prolonged damp, so take these off before washing or swimming.
  • Store pieces separately so they do not knock against one another.
  • Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth after wearing — a pale wood shows a mark more readily than a dark one.
  • Avoid perfume, moisturiser, soap and other chemicals.

Are these studs or danglers? ▾

Studs. The oval sits flat along the earlobe and nothing hangs below it.

Is the line painted on? ▾

No. It is wood veneer — a leaf-thin strip cut and laid into the face, then polished back. It is wood, not ink, so it cannot wear off.

Which wood is this? ▾

Maple, the pale wood used for violin backs, sides and necks. The colour is the wood's own, not bleached or stained.

Are wooden studs comfortable for everyday wear? ▾

Yes. The pair weighs about 10 g and a stud puts no pull on the lobe, so these suit long days and travel.

Will the pale wood darken? ▾

Slightly, over years. Maple warms rather than yellows, and keeping it out of direct sunlight slows the change.
