A pale Boxwood oval crossed corner to corner by a single broad band of dark Ebony.
Arundhati is made from Boxwood and Ebony, two of the woods that pass through a Kolkata workshop making parts for musical instruments. The Ebony is the wood of violin fingerboards and tailpieces; the Boxwood is what instrument makers use for fittings and for their own bench tools. Both reach us as offcuts from that work — fully seasoned, dense and stable. Read how the wood gets here.
The band is Ebony veneer, cut and laid onto the face, then polished back — real wood at its own colour, not ink or paint.
Running it on the diagonal rather than straight across is the whole decision. A horizontal band halves the oval and the drop looks shorter; a diagonal one cuts the longest line available on the shape, so the eye travels further and the drop reads as larger than it is.
One band, nothing else. The rest of the face is left as plain pale wood.

Styling ▾
One bold mark on an otherwise plain face — these are lightweight wooden earrings for daily wear that still look designed. Black and pale gold behaves as a neutral, so colour is easy and prints are no problem.
Because the band runs at an angle, the pair reads differently depending on which way the oval turns.
Looking after it ▾
- Keep it in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight.
- Keep it dry. A laid surface dislikes prolonged damp, so take these off before washing or swimming.
- Store pieces separately so they do not knock against one another — the edges are where laid wood is most vulnerable.
- Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth after wearing.
- Avoid perfume, moisturiser, soap and other chemicals.

Is the band painted on? ▾
No. It is Ebony veneer — a leaf-thin piece of real wood cut and laid onto the Boxwood, then polished back. The colour is the wood's own and cannot be rubbed off.
Why does the band run diagonally? ▾
Because a diagonal is the longest line available on an oval. Run across the middle it would halve the shape; run corner to corner the eye travels further and the drop reads larger.
Will these go with printed clothes? ▾
Yes. There is only one mark on the earring, so nothing competes with a print.
Are these comfortable for daily wear? ▾
Yes. The pair weighs about 10 g and the surface is flush, so there is nothing to catch.
Will the colour fade? ▾
Wood deepens rather than fades. Kept out of direct sunlight and away from chemicals, both woods darken slightly over the years and hold their polish.
