🔮 Geometry with Purpose — Circles, Stars, Squares & Curves

A smooth, rounded drop shaped like a coffee bean, split down the middle by a single fine line.

Aranya is made from Boxwood and Ebony, two of the woods that pass through a Kolkata workshop making parts for musical instruments. The Ebony is the wood of violin fingerboards and tailpieces; the Boxwood is what instrument makers use for fittings and for their own bench tools. Both reach us as offcuts from that work — fully seasoned, dense and stable. Read how the wood gets here.

The shape is domed rather than flat — full through the middle and tapering at both ends, so it catches light along a curve instead of showing one face. The outline is almost exactly a coffee bean, which is where the piece gets its character: it is organic where most of our geometry is straight.

The line running down it is veneer, cut and laid into the face and polished back level. One line, nothing else — and on a shape this simple it does the work of an entire design, because it is what tells the eye the drop is divided.

It is also the most affordable piece we make, which has nothing to do with shortcuts and everything to do with how little material a small bean takes.

Styling ▾

Small, smooth and warm — the easiest lightweight wooden earrings for daily wear in the range. There is no pattern to clash with anything and nothing sharp to catch.

Because the shape is rounded rather than angular, it also suits softer clothes and curved necklines, where a geometric drop can look stiff.

Looking after it ▾
  • Keep it in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight.
  • Keep it dry. A laid surface dislikes prolonged damp, so take these off before washing or swimming.
  • Store pieces separately so they do not knock against one another.
  • Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth after wearing.
  • Avoid perfume, moisturiser, soap and other chemicals.

Is the line a cut or a piece of wood? ▾

A piece of wood. It is veneer — a leaf-thin strip laid into the face and polished back level, not a groove and not a painted line.

Why is this pair less expensive than the others? ▾

Because it is small and simple. A bean takes less material and fewer operations than a large banded or engraved piece — the wood and the workmanship are the same.

Are these comfortable for daily wear? ▾

Very. The pair weighs about 10 g, the shape is compact, and there are no points or corners.

Are both earrings identical? ▾

Very close. The grain runs differently through each piece of wood, so the pair is matched rather than duplicated.

Will the colour fade? ▾

Wood deepens rather than fades. Kept out of direct sunlight and away from chemicals, both woods darken slightly over the years and hold their polish.
