A small pale Boxwood disc at the ear, and below it a narrow Ebony drop banded near the shoulder.

Amra is made from Boxwood and Ebony, two of the woods that pass through a Kolkata workshop making parts for musical instruments. The Ebony is the wood of violin fingerboards and tailpieces; the Boxwood is what instrument makers use for fittings and for their own bench tools. Both reach us as offcuts from that work — fully seasoned, dense and stable. Read how the wood gets here.

The bands are joined wood. Strips of Boxwood are cut and bonded between the Ebony, then the drop is shaped and polished back as one piece — every line across it is a join between two species, not a mark on a surface.

The disc above is the part that sets this pair apart from the darker drops in the range: it is pale rather than black, which lifts the whole earring and keeps the dark drop from reading as heavy. A small bright point at the lobe, then length below it.

The drop itself is narrow, which makes it one of the easier long shapes to wear through a working day.

Details ▾

Woods: Boxwood and Ebony, responsibly repurposed exotic hardwoods.

Construction: the woods cut, joined and polished back.

Form: small pale disc above a narrow banded drop.

Pair weight: about 10 g.

Findings are metal alloy. Sold as one pair.

Handcrafted in Kolkata, India.

Styling ▾

The pale disc keeps this lighter in feel than an all-dark drop, which makes these lightweight wooden earrings for daily wear rather than occasion-only.

They sit well with cotton and linen in daylight, and the Ebony gives them enough depth for an evening without changing pairs.

Looking after it ▾
  • Keep it in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight.
  • Keep it dry — take it off before washing or swimming.
  • Store pieces separately so they do not knock against one another.
  • Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth after wearing.
  • Avoid perfume, moisturiser, soap and other chemicals.
Delivery and returns ▾

Free shipping on prepaid orders within India. Dispatch in 2–3 working days; delivery 2–3 days to metro cities and 5–7 days elsewhere in India. Please film an unboxing video. It is required for any claim about a damaged, defective or incorrect item, which must be raised within 48 hours of delivery.

Are the pale bands painted on? ▾

No. They are Boxwood, joined between the Ebony and polished back. Both colours are the woods' own.

Is the black wood dyed? ▾

No. It is Ebony, which is that colour naturally — the same wood used for violin fingerboards.

Are these comfortable for daily wear? ▾

Yes. The pair weighs about 10 g and the drop is narrow, so there is nothing broad to swing or catch.

Will these suit a round face? ▾

Well. A narrow vertical drop lengthens the line of the face, where a wide or circular earring widens it.

Will the colour fade? ▾

Wood deepens rather than fades. Kept out of direct sunlight and away from chemicals, both woods darken slightly over the years and hold their polish.
