Aarushi is painted red and black by hand onto a body of Boxwood and Ebony. The Boxwood matters more than it might appear: it is a pale, close-grained wood, and painting onto it is closer to working on fine paper than on timber. The red sits bright rather than sinking, and the grain stays faintly visible underneath — which is the whole reason to paint on wood instead of on moulded acrylic, where colour sits on a dead surface.

Painted, not printed
Almost all coloured jewellery at this scale is printed, moulded or transferred — processes designed to make every unit identical. Aarushi is painted with a brush, pair by pair, which guarantees the opposite. Lines vary in weight. Curves land slightly differently. Held side by side, two pairs are recognisably the same design and unmistakably not the same object.
How to style Aarushi
- Celebrations: weddings, receptions, sangeet, birthdays and anniversaries — red carries occasion without needing scale
- Festive dressing: Durga Puja, Navratri, Diwali, Poila Boishakh
- Sarees: strongest against cream, white, black, mustard and off-white; particularly good with plain silk and handloom

The finish sits on the surface, so painted pieces ask for slightly more care than bare wood:
- Put your earrings on last — after perfume, hairspray, makeup and skincare
- Keep them well away from sanitiser, nail-polish remover and anything alcohol-based; solvents lift paint
- Remove before bathing, swimming or exercising
- Wipe only with a soft, dry cloth, and never rub at the painted area
- Store on their own in the box or pouch provided, away from moisture, heat and sunlight
- Handle by the metal findings rather than the painted face

Frequently asked questions
▾How is hand-painted wooden jewellery different from printed jewellery?
Printing, moulding and transfer processes exist to make every unit identical, and they sit on a uniform surface. Hand-painting is applied with a brush by a person, one pair at a time, onto wood that already has its own grain. The result varies slightly from pair to pair — which is the point, not a defect.
▾Why paint onto Boxwood?
Boxwood is pale and very close-grained, so it takes paint cleanly and keeps colour bright, while the grain stays faintly readable beneath. Painting onto a darker wood dulls the red considerably.
▾Will the paint chip or come off?
Not with ordinary wear. What damages painted wood is solvent and abrasion — perfume sprayed directly on, sanitiser, nail-polish remover, or scrubbing at the surface. Avoid those, wipe only with a dry cloth, and the finish holds.
▾How heavy are they?
10 g per pair. Light enough to wear through a full wedding day, which is more than can be said for most earrings of this size in metal.
▾Can Aarushi get wet?
Please avoid it. Water is harder on painted wood than on bare wood. Remove them before bathing or swimming, and if they do get damp, dry immediately with a soft cloth and let them air fully before storing.
▾Are hand-painted earrings a good gift?
They travel well as a gift because they are visibly made by hand — the variation in the brushwork is evidence of that. Aarushi arrives in premium packaging, and red suits celebration occasions across most of India.
▾Will my pair match the photographs?
The design will match. The brushwork will not be identical, and the Boxwood and Ebony beneath vary from board to board. Two pairs that looked truly identical would not have been painted by hand.

▾What outfit colours work best?
Cream, white, black, mustard and off-white give the red the most contrast. Plain silk, handloom and solid kurtas are ideal. Busy prints compete with painted work and flatten it.

On their own, in the box or pouch provided, so nothing presses or rubs against the painted surface. Cool, dry, out of direct sunlight.
